Yankees’ worsening offensive woes threatening to ‘torpedo’ their season

You know what feels like it happened during Joe DiMaggio’s time as a Yankee?

The Torpedo bat controversy

These days the Yankees do not look like they have ahead-of-the-industry pieces of design genius in their hands. They look like they have toothpicks — actually broken toothpicks.

For more than two weeks now they have plummeted from arguably the majors’ best offense to something that Alvaro Espinoza dragged in. They have stopped launching the ball over the fence with league-best frequency, have become allergic to the clutch hit and are more likely to break into song and dance than construct a rally with small ball.
