The Summer Bag Trend Every Celebrity Seems to Agree On
Everywhere I look (online), I can’t stop seeing celebrities carrying raffia bags. Whatever their personal style may be, there seems to always be one on their arm. If there’s not, it’s something extremely similar like a burlap or straw bag.
It makes sense: It’s officially too hot for leather, and I don’t just mean jackets. When have patent leather purses ever mixed well with sandy beaches? A suede clutch might look cute for a night out, but one sweaty palm print and you’re looking at a stain. No, there really is only one go-to carryall for summer that works with every occasion: a raffia, straw, or burlap bag. Classier than a canvas tote, more down-to-earth than leather, it matches the easy-breezy vibes of summer perfectly.
If you still don’t believe, just look to Miranda Kerr at the French Open on June 7, where the model carried an embellished woven handbag by Loewe. Kerr went with the mini font tote in raffia ($1,800), but you might prefer the slightly larger small logo tote ($1,500).
Jodie Turner-Smith, meanwhile, showed up this week in France wearing a brown ruffled raffia bag by Zimmerman. While the $795 price tag is out of range for me, this Banana Republic circle bag is in a similar chocolate color.
