US: Wall Street slips at open after strong run, weak housing starts data

Wall Street’s main indexes opened lower on Friday (Aug 16) after a weak housing starts report dampened sentiment after the S&P 500 and the Nasdaq’s six-straight sessions of gains on signs of US economic health.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average fell 34.2 points, or 0.08 per cent, at the open to 40,528.86.

The S&P 500 fell 12.7 points, or 0.23 per cent, at the open to 5,530.5, while the Nasdaq Composite dropped 78.1 points, or 0.44 per cent, to 17,516.404 at the opening bell. REUTERS
